Do You Really Exist as a Job Seeker if You Aren’t on LinkedIn?

Over 94% of internal and external recruiters use LinkedIn to source candidates.  If you’re a professional it is critical that you are on LinkedIn with a magnetic, complete profile to attract recruiters to you.  Start with these 3 tips:

  • Professional Looking Headshot: You can do this using your own camera/cell phone or have it done professionally, but if you do it yourself please no pics with the fish you caught or cut out of a crowd where we see someone else’s shoulder)
  • Engaging Headline: You have 120 characters, so use them all. Combine the job title you want, like Director Product Management, with job skills and key attributes. Separate each using the vertical line “|” typically found on your keyboard near the “Enter” button.
  • “About” Summary: You have 2,000 characters, so use them all. This section is written in first person (I am) that highlights your key skills and why they should be interested in talking you.

  1. This is so true. I’m amazed at how some folks have super minimal profiles on LinkedIn. It’s so important as a professional to be on LinkedIn and be active!

    1. Exactly Karyn! People are still thinking of LinkedIn as a tool instead of a social media platform. Having a complete profile is a CRITICAL step in being able to fully capitalize on the power of LinkedIn in 2020 and beyond!

  2. Very helpful information for those of us ‘searching’ for our next role. Everything you have recommended in this blog and your presentations has helped.

    1. Giovanni thank you for your comments! I am a student of the job search process, and while it is evolving, much of it remains the same! Having a completed LinkedIn profile is a must!
