Recently I was asked by a job hunter why they if they should send thank you letters to the people that interviewed them. They thought that this was an outdated practice. ABSOLUTELY – you should email thank you notes to everyone that interviewed you.
BUT, each one to be custom written and tailored for each individual on the interview team. Be genuine about your interest and add something to the note that you learned when you spent time with that individual. Compose these as soon as you can and send quickly. The speed and quality of what you write can influence your interview outcome. Be aware that the interview team will often share these thank you notes amongst the team and I can remember countless times when candidates would cut and paste the same thank you repeatedly and send out to everyone. Be Original; be Memorable – – your thank you note might just nudge another candidate out of consideration!
